how to MAKE A napling
Welcome, and get ready to learn how to make a Napling! To start with, you have three(3) blank MYO Slots to make new MYO Naplings with, as well as a single free breeding to use to get a bred Napling! In this guide, we'll be showing you how to make an MYO Napling, check out our [Insert Breeding Guide Link] if you want to know how to design your Bred Napling!
Anatomy Breakdown
First, let's look at a General Overview of what their anatomy looks like! We'll be using our example Sleepkin, Vide, to show you a quick overview of a Naplings Anatomy! After this we'll break this overview down into its separate parts, covering the front leg shape, ear rings, nose color, and more!
Don't forget when drawing your Napling, that they start off without any upgrades! This means they don't start with hair, fur anywhere but the ears and tail, claws, thumbs, or any other additions not shown on the basic anatomy guide above! Don't worry, as things like hair on the top of the head are available after approval, so your Napling won't be bald for long.
The Ears & MUZZLE
When drawing your Napling, make sure they start off with a short, blunt muzzle with a small nose! Make sure that your Naplings muzzle is a little shorter than half the width of their head if possible! Don't worry if you like the long look, you can unlock a longer muzzle via an upgrade later on!
Now when you draw your Naplings ears it's important to remember that they should be a little bigger than the size of your Naplings head! Napling ears are required to have fur on them when they're first born, but you can remove the tufts later via an upgrade! This fur does transfer over onto any ear upgrades you get in the future unless specifically stated otherwise.
The Legs & Tail
Naplings have chubby, sloped legs with small, three-toed paws! When drawing your Naplings legs, it's important to think of them as a cone, becoming smaller a the bottom and wider at the top. Their toes are flexible, able to hold objects and climb like they were real hands! They're versatile enough that a baby can even get thumbs before they ever grow up, letting them grab with even more ease! Remember NOT to completely line off your naplings toes!
Now onto one of the Naplings best features, quite possibly the fluffiest and most adorable part of a Napling... their Tail! It's important when drawing the tail of a Napling to make sure it's not too small or too big. Instead, the tail should be roughly the same size as your Naplings head, and oh so fluffy!
When adding the fur onto a naplings fluffy tail, keep in mind that it should not be square, curled, or wooly! It should look a lot like the example we've given you to the right, nice and pointy fur!
Don't worry if you don't like the fur on a naplings tail, as like with the ears, there's an upgrade that will allow you to remove the fur off of the naplings tail, and most of the tail upgrades as well! (Keep in mind, some tail upgrades are completely exempt from this!)
COLORING YOUR NAPLING
Your Sleepkin will start with one of the currently available palettes! There are Eleven (11) Year Round Palettes available to be used at any point through the year, alongside a (current) total of Number (#) Seasonal Palettes available depending on the time of year. Each set of Seasonal palettes will cycle out after three months, being replaced with the next set of seasonal palettes in the cycle!
Spring palettes are available from March 1st to May 31st
Summer palettes are available from June 1st to August 31st
Autumn palettes are available from September 1st to November 31st
Winter palettes are available from December 1st to February 28th or 29th
You can find links to all of the available palettes for making your Naplings Here!
Naplings start with a solid base color depicted as the majority or backing color of the palette. This is the color your Napling should start with, and be the color underneath all of the secondary placements your Napling might have. The squares of color on the palette over the base color are your available Secondaries to choose from!
Remember, you can only choose two secondaries to use for any placements you choose! If you don't use any placements on your Napling and apply an upgrade that requires a secondary before any color upgrades, you can pull it from their original MYO Palette.
You can only choose two secondaries regardless of whether the palette is seasonal (with four secondaries to choose from) or standard (with three secondaries to choose from).
Placements
There are a total of Forty-One (41) Placements to choose from when coloring your Napling. Most of these placements can be used in conjunction with one another, with some being unique standalone placements that can't be combined with others.
Standard Placements can be combined with one another for up to a total of Five (5) placements on one Napling! Placements can combine, forming larger placements as long as they don't form sharp edges or dips. Instead, placements should smoothly blend into one another, giving the appearance of one, larger placement! All of the Standard Placement options are listed below, but you can also find them by clicking here!
There is currently One (1) Unique Placement, the Chimerism Placement, which you can find here! This Placement cannot be combined with any other placements and takes up half of your Naplings body in an even fifty-fifty asymmetrical split. The Chimerism placement can currently be used all year round. Just remember, unique placements might retire in the future!
Coloring the Eyes
First, let's cover the eyes of your Napling! Here's a fast breakdown of what your Naplings eyes should have!
- Two eyes with the same colored iris that's easily distinguishable from white or black with a lightness value above Ten (10) Percent (%) and below Ninety (90) Percent (%)! You can use the Google Color Picker to check HSL based off RGB to Hexcode!
- No visible pupils (adding "pupils" in shading is fine as long as they're obviously part of the shading!)
- A pure white sclera with the hexcode #FFFFFF, meaning no tinting to any color whatsoever!
Now let's look at a few examples of what is, and what isn't acceptable!
Let's take a look at the eyes going from the top pair, all the way down to the bottom pair!
The top row has...
-
No Pupils
-
Two Iris' of the same color that's distinguishable from white or black with a proper HSL value.
-
A white sclera
That means they're legal and ready to go!
The second row has...
-
Pupils
-
A white sclera
-
Two Iris' differing in color but distinguishable from white or black.
Unfortunately, these are illegal due to the pupils and mismatched Iris Colors! Those are gonna have to change.
The third row has...
-
Two Iris of the same color that are indistinguishable from black.
-
A dark grey sclera
Once again, these eyes are way too illegal! They'll have to be drastically lightened so they're not black, and the sclera will have to be white!
Coloring the Ears, rings, & nose
Next, let's look at how to color your Naplings Ears and their nose! It's important when coloring your Naplings ears to remember that Sleepkin have inner ear rings, or simply also called your Naplings magic rings! These Rings reflect your Naplings magic color, a Sleepkins equivalent to biological sex! There are two magic colors available to your Sleepkin, that being Pink or Blue. Pink magic is represented by two bands inside the ear, while Blue magic is represented by one band surrounding a large circle inside the ear.
It's important to remember that your Naplings Magic color is equivalent to their assigned gender at birth, with Pink equivalent to Female and Blue equivalent to Male. This doesn't matter much where you Napling will be growing up in Oakmoth since it's a small town dedicated mostly to farming and simple life, but Gender Roles are heavily enforced in large cities, where it's not as acceptable to decide what you want to be.
This ear indicates that this Sleepkin has Blue Magic! The Male Equivalent.
This ear indicates that this Sleepkin has Pink Magic! The Female Equivalent.
Now to actually coloring the ear! When you color in your Naplings ears, they consist of two colors! The first color is your Sleepkins flesh color, which will cover their inner ear and mouth! This color should start as some shade of fleshy pink or red!
Keep in mind when coloring in a Naplings flesh color that it should not be supersaturated, think instead of the same color a dog tongue would be, or even your own!
The second color should be your Naplings ring color, which should be some dark near-black color! This can be any color ranging from Red to Blue, as long as it's desaturated and near black, or some form of extremely dark grey!
Now to color your Naplings nose, you'll be using one of those colors you just chose! Your Naplings nose can be either the flesh color or your Magic Ring color! Keep in mind it must be one of those colors, and cannot be a completely different color, even if it is another fleshy tone! Don't forget that even if you choose your naplings ring color, that inside of your naplings mouth will still be the flesh color that you picked for your napling!
submitting your approval
Now that you're done drawing and coloring your napling, let's get on to how you get them approved!
First, you'll need to put your Napling on the application here! DO NOT Download the image by right-clicking, instead use one of the buttons below the picture to download either the transparent, or non-transparent version to put your Napling on!
Make sure to fill out the information on the Application, like inserting your Naplings chosen colors into the pallete! If you decided to have one or no Secondaries, just fill in where you would put your secondaries with their base color instead!
Once you've filled out the pallete for your Napling, make sure to include their name in the right box in the top right as well!
If your Napling is Bred or Adopted, you should have received your application through Discord or Notes on Deviantart, if you haven't, note the group!
When uploading your Napling to Deviantart, make sure to include the following information in the description!
Name: This should be the same name on your Naplings Application image!
Magic Color: The color of Magic your Napling has! Determined by what rings are inside your Naplings ears!
Gender: The pronouns your napling goes by! Remember that a Naplings ear ring color is akin to their biological sex!
Creation Type: How you made your Napling! This will be listed as "MYO"
ID#: Your Napling's ID#! This is given after approval, so make sure to go back and edit the description to include it later.
