dream dust

Welcome to the Dream Dust section of the Currency Guide. What's Dream Dust? Dream Dust (or DD) is the groups milestone marker currency. Almost every single upgrade you'll want to apply to your Sleepkin will have a Dream Dust Requirement! In order to apply that upgrade, aside from any other requirements, you'll need to have equal or greater that amount of Dream Dust!

You gain Dream Dust mainly by drawing or writing about anything Sleepkin, including official pets and others Sleepkin!

Dream Dust is counted in your Deviations Description, usually in this format:

[# Earned in Image]/[New Dream Dust Total]
ex: If you had 10 DD and earned 5 more DD, your description count would look like this:

5/15 DD

The Tracker

Sleepkins has a required but handy-dandy Dream Dust Tracker you can use in order to keep track of how much Dream Dust you have! The Tracker will add all of your totals together for you, you just need to input how many of what there is!

Only input the # of Fullbodies, Shading, Gifts, etc. there is unless it's the OTHER column. So if there's four (4) fullbodies in your deviation, under fullbodies you'd put Four (4) not Twelve (12)!

To get your own Tracker just click where it says File then select Make a Copy. Just like that, you'll have your own tracker in your own google sheets that you can edit, ta-da!

CLEAN VS MESSy

Lineart and Sketches

In order to count as clean, Lineart and Sketches must:

  • Be recognizable as the character it's intended to be.

  • Not have an excessive amount of stray lines on the image

  • Not have lines that obstruct the clear definition of the character.

Coloring

In order to count as clean, all coloring must:

  • Be recognizable as the character it's intended to be.

  • Stay (mostly) within the sketch/lines and not stray outside in blobs. Some gaps as a stylistic choice is fine.

  • Include all aspects of a design (markings, placements, etc.)

  • Be the characters intended palette or a Monthly Challenge color palette.

Simple vs detailed

Unsure what counts as Simple vs Detailed when it comes to shading and backgrounds? This is a bit trickier than clean vs unclean sketches and lines, as there are two different types of simple and detailed, those being shading and backgrounds. This handy little guide should help you determine whether somethings simple or detailed!

Shading

Simple Shading

Simple shading...

  • Is one or two layers of unblended or lightly blurred highlights or shadows on a character/background.

  • Is as simple as partial shadows in some areas of the character/background instead of the majority

  • Does not have to have a defined light source that makes sense as long as the shading is not all over the place.

Detailed Shading

Detailed shading...

  • Is multiple layers of cell, blurred, or painterly shadows, AND lighting on a character/background.

  • Must include shading/lighting on the majority of the character/background, leaving no doubt as to where the light is coming from.

  • Should be consistent, meaning if the light is coming from the left you shouldn’t put tons of shadow where the light is touching.

Backgrounds

Simple Backgrounds

Simple backgrounds include...

  • A scene or setting of some sort and cannot be patterns put behind the character.

  • A midground of some sort.

  • Minimal Detailing, meaning the scene can be mostly empty without lots of items or the like to fill it up.

  • Flat Colors, shading is completely optional on Simple Backgrounds!

Detailed Backgrounds

Detailed backgrounds include...

  • A scene or setting of some sort and cannot be patterns put behind the character.

  • A foreground, midground, and background elements to the scene.

  • A decent amount of detail, such as adding bushes to the ground, branches to a forest, detail any grass, adding clouds, decorations to interiors, etc. in the image!

  • Must have at least simple shading!

Dream Dust is mostly used just for earning upgrades, but it has other uses! As you earn Dream Dust you also earn Milestones which reward you with different prizes. Most of the time you'll receive Dream Tokens, however, there are a few other repeatable milestones you can earn for more in the group!
