General information
Pronunciation "Blep-in"
Plural: Bleppins
Baby Bleppin: Kit or Kitten
Group of Bleppins: A pile
Bleppin's are one of the most popular pets in the Sleepkin world, found everywhere from Kin's homes to roaming the wilds. Though they weren't always this popular and even were seen as pests at times, their popularity sky-rocketed once it got out that Queen Lillith herself had one of the little creatures. Although, hers is quite the odd little thing, not at all like the two common breeds the regular folk can get.

Bleppin's come in many sizes, shapes, and colors. They have a wide range of possible colors, markings, and traits. From different ears to even sprouting a whole pair of back legs, there's plenty of things that set Bleppins apart from one another! These adorable little serpentine pets come in many varieties, with several different and adorable breeds to choose from, not to mention the different combinations involved in cross breeding these Breeds! From the most common Meadow Bleppins to Clover Bleppins to the rare and borderline folklore Mythical Bleppin, the different breeds have different uses in the Sleepkin world!
Bleppins are very animal-like in intelligence, though capable of understanding basic commands, they're primal minded not really thinking of complex life. Instead, Bleppins tend to mostly think about things such as food, breeding, and survival. Their intelligence is best compared to dogs in real life, capable of learning word association and tricks- as long as those tricks only require two front legs, of course.
Wild vs Domestic
Bleppins are spotted plenty in the wild world of Cenavia, typically rolling grasslands or sparse forests. Despite their usual dwellings, there have been reports of Bleppins on mountains, in caves, and very rarely they've been spotted in colder climates. Typically ones spotted in colder areas of Cenavia are abandoned pets, dumped there by uncaring cold-hearted Sleepkin who no longer cared for their faithful companions.

Wild Bleppins are typically solitary creatures, interacting with their own kind only occasionally or under special conditions. Typically you may see a Pile if the weather grows chilly and these warm-blooded little critters need to snuggle up to keep warm. It's also typical to see many Bleppins in the same place if it's a prime basking area, such as on piles of large flat rocks and the like where they can soak up the warm sun rays.
Oddly, their disposition towards their own kind seems to completely change when raised in captivity. Instead of being solitary and avoidant of their own kind, they become communal, enjoying the company of other Bleppins and even sometimes engaging in play! It's assumed that since these Bleppins are raised with their littermates and are constantly being handled by Sleepkin that they become used to communal living and affection, even growing to enjoy it.

Wild Bleppins also tend to be varying shades of browns or greens, capable of blending into their preferred habitats of grasslands and sparse forests, however domestic Bleppins tend to vary much more in color. Reds, Blues, Orange, Greys, and even Purples can be seen in domestic Bleppins!
Bleppin Uses in Sleepkin Society
Bleppins are one of the most common and long-standing companion animals that Sleepkins have. They've been around as pets since their very discovery- and for good reason too! Bleppins are able to store magic, as all creatures in the Sleepkin world do, but unlike other creatures, that magic doesn't naturally dissipate.

Originally domesticated and bred for aid in hunting, Sleepkin quickly realized that Bleppins had entire other use. Being a magic battery! The long-bodied companions' excess magic can be funneled and channeled by their owners, allowing Sleepkins to use the Bleppins innate magical storage to boost their own spells. This can be used to make magic being used stronger, or simply to expand the duration which the spell lasts! It's important to be careful not to over-drain a Bleppin. Occasional tales are told of owners draining their Bleppins of all of their magic, and killing them.
Diet and Feeding Habits
Bleppins are obligate carnivores, meaning they only eat meat and depend upon it for their very survival. Typically, Bleppins will eat small prey items such as woodland birds, field mice, voles, or rabbits. Farmers unlucky enough to build their Hackler coops close to a Bleppins roaming area may also find that the feline-reptiles have made a snack out of the smaller flock members.

In captivity, Bleppins enjoy most of the same food that their wild counterparts do. However, they also enjoy many foods that their wild counterparts never would be able to, such as Boarstle-Chops, scrambled or fried eggs, sausage, and occasionally fishy treats such as eel. Their more varied diet in captivity is both a good and bad thing. Their willingness to chow down on most any meat they're offered makes it easier to feed them, but their lack of control and likelihood to eat meats with lots of fat often results in... rounder, Bleppins.
Breeding
Unlike most creatures, Bleppins are unisex, meaning they're all capable of laying eggs and reproducing with one another. Bleppins tend to lay clutches of eggs numbering anywhere from two to six in a single breeding, typically with numbers typically ranging on the lower side. Bleppins will find a safe place to make a nest before even breeding, such as in a small burrow, under the roots of a tree, or inside of a bush! Once they have a secure home to raise their Kits in, they'll create a nest with feathers, dry grass, and twigs. The "mother" of the pair will spend most of its time curled around the eggs from the time they're laid until the time they hatch.

Kits take after their parents, meaning that the kits that result from breeding two Bleppin will inherit their colors/markings/etc. from their parents in a roll! Meaning that if neither of the parents has say stripes or spots, then the babies can't inherit the markings that aren't there! The babies' rarity will never exceed the higher-tier parent by more than one rank, meaning Very Common Bleppin will only have Common or Very Common kits!
